In the continued efforts to provide educational, fun, and safe community based programming the Take Charge Program, the SBA, and HerBasketball.org (The Revolution is Her) will host three upcoming Basketball & Life Skills Camps this June to kick off the Summer.  All of the week long camps will feature overall skill development, competitive games, guest speakers, and self-esteem and life skills seminars.

These “one of a-kind” Basketball and Life Skills Camps aspire to enhance the overall development of the youth. The Camps are divided into two components: Athletic, basketball development and Life skills.  The Life Skills portion of the program utilizes a holistic approach to educate the youth about the most important game they will ever participate in,”The Game of Life”.

Through basketball, the youth who participate in the Camps will learn the components of success. Basketball will help teach discipline, coachability, responsibility, accountability, teamwork and a host of outstanding qualities that can be applied to all aspects of life. Basketball will also help build character and nurture the competitive spirit that will cause the youth to desire to excel not only in basketball, but also in school, home, and life in general.

The Take Charge Basketball and Life Skills Camps are sponsored by the Take Charge Program, the Street Basketball Association, HerBasketball.org, Pepco, PG County Department of Parks and Recreation, Coca-Cola, BB&T, and Prince Georges County Council Members.

The first Camp will take place June 11th – June 15th at Laurel High School, followed by the second camp at Glassmanor Community Center June 18th – June 22nd, with the third camp at Forestville Military Academy June 25th – June 29th.  The camps are for both boys and girls ages 8-15 years-old.  All three camps run Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm with the Laurel and Forestville Camps $99 and the Glassmanor Camp is Free with a $10 registration fee.

TheTake Charge Program and the SBA have received tremendous positive feedback regarding the Basketball Life Skills Camp Initiative as it also features special guest speakers from local businesses, county government officials, sports industry professionals, and community leaders. With the success over the years in Prince Georges County the SBA and Take Charge Program will review additional opportunities to implement the Basketball Life Skills Camp in other qualified inner cities and counties throughout the U.S.
